The Diocese of Springfield ran its last capital campaign in 1999 called Future of Hope. The goal was set at $30 million. The campaign was launched to raise money for parishes, Catholic education, social ministries, the Newman Center, seminarians, lay ministry, and the 1999 Annual Catholic Appeal. Far surpassing the goal, the Future of Hope campaign raised in excess of $40 million dollars.
The Foundation of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield, now known as the Western Massachusetts Catholic Foundation, was established in 1998 as a separate legal entity to oversee capital campaign endowment funds raised in the Future of Hope campaign. Foundation goals were to ensure long-term financial stability for the educational, charitable, and pastoral programs and ministries of the diocese.
The endowment funds raised in the Future of Hope campaign allowed the principal to be invested and grow, while providing a stream of income from the interest. Over $35 million dollars has been disbursed in the last twenty years to benefit the Catholic Church of western Massachusetts and those in need. Thousands of people each year are impacted by the generosity of the faithful twenty years ago.
